<p>Did you know that one cup of blueberries is only 81 calories? Blueberries are delicious and full of good nutrition. Blueberries contain 30% vitamin C, 20% manganese, 15% dietary fiber, about 8% vitamin E.  </p>
<p>Blueberries are high in antioxidants. That means they protect the body against &#8220;free radical&#8221; damage. Tufts University researchers analyzed 60 fruits and vegetables for their antioxidant capability. Blueberries topped them all, rating highest in their capacity to destroy free radicals. That is good, because free radicals lead to all the chronic diseases and aging.  </p>
<p>The benefits of eating blueberries include: may help lower cholesterol, may reduce effects of Alzheimer&#8217;s disease, promotes gastrointestinal health, protects against macular degeneration (3 servings of fruit/day), protects against colon cancer and ovarian cancer, and they help with elimination. </p>
<p>Blueberries help with diarrhea and constipation. The Rutgers Blueberry Research Center found that blueberries also contain the same compound as cranberries. Blueberries can help prevent urinary tract infections.</p>
<p>Researchers say the results suggest that antioxidant-rich blueberries may change how the body stores and processes glucose or sugar for energy, thereby reducing the risk of both heart disease and diabetes. A diet high in blueberries can improve glucose control and insulin sensitivity.</p>
<p>It is blueberry season in the northeast. You can add them to salads, cereals, yogurt, and smoothies, eat them plan, or eat them with other fruits. </p>

When you make the choice to have weight loss surgery, it is usually because you have been through everything else possible and you can still not lose weight. Examples of weight loss surgery for obesity include: <br />
Adjustable Gastric Banding is among the least invasive weight loss treatments. This uses an inflatable band to squeeze the stomach into two sections; a smaller upper pouch and a larger lower section. Although these two are still connected, the channel between them is very small, which slows down the emptying of the upper section. It restricts the amount of food that you can take in at a meal. The food also needs to be soft or well-chewed. The types of gastric bands include the LAP-Band and Realize.<br />
Vertical Banded Gastroplasty is like adjustable gastric banding. It divides the stomach into two parts, although with both a band a surgical staples. This one is now less common because it did not have as good results as the other techniques; however, it is still an option. <br />
Sleeve Gastrectomy is a relatively new form of restrictive weight loss surgery. In the operation, which is usually done with a laparoscope, it removes approximately 75% of the stomach. What remains of the stomach is a narrow tube or sleeve, which is then connected to the intestines. This is usually the first step of a series of weight loss surgeries. However, it could end up being the only surgery that is required.<br />
Gastric Bypass Surgery is the most common weight loss surgery. This weight loss surgery combines both the malabsorptive and restrictive surgery approaches. It can be done as either minimally invasive or open surgery. The surgeon divides the stomach into two parts, sealing off the upper section from the lower section. The surgeon then connects the upper stomach directly to the lower section of the small intestine. The surgeon is essentially creating a shortcut for the food, bypassing a section of the stomach and the small intestine. Skipping these parts of the digestive tract means that fewer calories get absorbed into the body. <br />
Biliopancreatic Diversion is essentially a more drastic version of gastric bypass. Part of the stomach, as much as seventy percent, is removed and even more of the small intestine is bypassed. This procedure removes less of the stomach and bypasses less of the small intestine. It also reduces the risks of some of the possible side effects. <br />
There are many different types of weight loss surgery for obesity. Which one that you choose is completely up to you, but you need to be prepared before making that decision. Discuss with your surgeon the best solutions for you and also discuss the risks of each surgery. Doing your research on each surgery before you make your decision is very important.  Losing weight is hard to do.  Sure, there are some quick ways to get some weight off fast, but there are no ways to keep that weight off for good.  It is difficult.  Perhaps this is the reason that there are so many weight loss programs out there.  If you&#8217;re not careful and research the options, you&#8217;re doomed to try many of them before one of them works, leading to loads of frustration.  Here are some super tips for weight loss that can help you investigate the option out there for you or even to create your own diet program.  </p>
<p>
 * Add good fats to your diet.  Good fats promote a healthy brain, control your cholesterol levels, and add flavor.  Some examples of good fats are sunflower oil, peanut oil, Enova oil (a brand name vegetable oil), and just about any oil of a tree nut or legume.  Healthy fat intake decreases fat cravings, making it easier to resist some of those foods tat are a weakness fro some.  </p>
<p>
 *Limit your bad fats intake.  Bad fats come from animal fats and hydrogenated oils.  These kinds of fats can lead to high blood pressure, heart problems, and high cholesterol.  There are other options, however, than eating foods that contain bad fats.  Try ground turkey instead of ground beef or lean pork loin roast instead of a fatty ham.  If you must eat potato chips, try to get the ones that are reduced salt and cooked in natural oils.  Some restaurants are even going to new oils for fried food that contain no saturated fats, which are a leading cause of heart disease and stroke in the United States.  </p>

 * Aerobic exercise is essential to any weight loss program.  Aerobic exercise allows and encourages the muscles use as much oxygen as possible.  During these workouts, the heart has to pump faster to allow for increased blood flow, which strengthens your heart.  </p>

 * Eat fat fighting foods such as healthy fats, nuts, beans, leafy greens, oat meal, and natural flavorings and spices.  It simply makes sense that if you keep eating poorly, you will have poor results.  </p>

<p>When you are ready to tackle losing a few pounds or more, there are just a few things to keep in mind. We all know the hint about drinking a glass of water, and how it fills you up before a meal. However, you might not realize that a cup of low calorie soup can also do the trick, yet it is much more satisfying. Here is another idea, allow yourself a treat now and then. You will never be able to keep the weight off if you do not know how to eat things in moderation. Perhaps you might diet all week and allow yourself to have a treats each weekend day. This might work out nicely in case you are out socializing with friends.</p>
<p>Do you know that a chef salad with meat in it can be very satisfying? My favorite is to add a few cut up slices of various lunch-meats, a chopped boiled egg, and a sprinkling of grated sharp or any flavor cheese. A couple chopped or sliced olives adds great flavor. </p>
<p>Use a small amount of diet or lite Italian dressing and mix well, coating the salad with the yolk of the egg, giving it a delicious taste that is infinitely more satisfying to eat. This salad replaces the meal though, it is more than enough to satisfy, and though olives are high in calories, using a couple and slicing and dicing makes the flavor go a long way. Never forget to count the calories (at least once) to figure out how many are in your salad so you will know.</p>
<p>Beware of fat free food, it is loaded with sugar, and most sugar free food is loaded with fat! Instead, find foods meant for the diabetic, you might find they will work for the diet since both fat and sugar are no-no&#8217;s for the diabetic. Anything you can find that is calorie free can aid in weight loss. There are many small sugar free candies, which are very low in calories. </p>
<p>As long as you have no reaction to the sugar substitutes, then using them occasionally to quiet cravings for sweets is ideal. They are not for gorging however.</p>
<p>If fat free milk in your coffee turns you off, try a low calorie powdered creamer but remember to read all of the various labels as they can be quite different in calorie counts. You can have a rich taste using this instead of the same calorie count in low fat or skim milk. There are many things to aid you in weight loss so keep some of our helpful tips in mind and you are much more likely to stay on track!</p>
